The AI Revolution and its Impact on Weather and Climate Prediction and Hazard Mitigation

Ilene Carpenter, HP Enterprise ABSTRACT: We are in the middle of a revolution in the use of AI for weather and climate prediction, enabled by the combination of huge volumes of data, enormous computational capabilities, rapid development of new AI methods and a growing pool of experts who know how to use these ingredients. National and private weather services around the world, as well as scientists in academia and industry, are applying new AI methods to push the frontiers of what’s possible. This talk will provide an overview of some of the exciting new applications of AI to weather and climate prediction and how AI is being used to understand and manage hazards associated with climate change.
