In a large power system network, continuously changing system conditions and events happening in one part of the network may result in high or low impact on other parts of the network. Changes in operating conditions or events with highly local impacts requiring quick control actions and involving assets owned by different entities can be addressed in a better way by distributed monitoring and control specially with high penetration of distributed energy resources (DER). Availability of high-resolution measurement data at faster rates also provides opportunities for distributed monitoring and control. Distributed control requires distributed sensing, distributed data processing, distributed optimization, hardware controller designed for distributed control and associated cyber infrastructure. This panel will focus on computational architecture to enable distributed control in the power grid and educational material available in the related area.
