Ensuring sufficient operational flexibility is a necessary part of planning in systems with high penetrations of variable generation. This and the previous panel are two parts of a joint effort between three groups to bring together experiences and insights from operations and planning in systems tackling the flexibility issue in two linked panels. This panel, focused on planning, will cover topics including: the role of flexible generation; accessing flexibility through transmission; flexibility from energy storage, EVs and demand management. The session will draw on experience from around the world in real world and academic settings, and will conclude with a panel discussion with presenters from the panel.
