Panel Session 05 Aug 2020

The vast majority of Canadian provinces and of US states in the Northeast of North America have embarked on an ambitious program of energy sector decarbonization. A unique feature of this region is the presence of Hydro-Québec's significant reservoir-bsed hydropower capacity, which, using the words of Québec's premier, could become the "battery of the Northeast". Recent work has demonstrated the value of greater industry integration across the region as a way to reduce the overall cost of the energy transition and to attain the decarbonization targets faster. In this panel session, we will discuss the technical, institutional and political implications of this vision. Panelists will bring their respective points of view and identify what may be feasible given the technical and political constraints.
