Panel Session 05 Aug 2020

Electricity grids are currently seeing a rapid rise in the amount of installations in both utility scale and distributed solar PV. This is causing an unprecedented level of uncertainty in system planning and operations. At the heart of this increased expansion is the decreasing cost in solar PV due to advancements in PV technologies and power electronic interfaces. In the electricity market, a higher PV penetration can make the marginal electricity price for solar PV generation to be zero or even negative as experienced in many parts of the world. The panel will discuss the causes, impacts and mitigation of issues created by the presence of high penetration solar PV in the grid.
