Panel Session 05 Aug 2020

Enhanced integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) offers multiple grid operation opportunities but also brings challenges. Energy management concepts need to be revisited for voltage and frequency control as well as for energy balancing. Advancements in algorithms and tools are needed to help operate under diverse grid conditions. This panel examines ongoing innovations in energy management to adopt with rapidly growing penetration of DERs within power distribution systems. This panel will leverage interdisciplinary expertise from panelists to disseminate solutions and promote tools to make distribution systems adaptive, flexible, resilient and reliable with DERs. Panel members will also discuss educational aspects for existing power engineers and operators in a DER-rich environment as well as preparing next generation workforce.
