Panel Session 06 Aug 2020

The increased penetration of distributed renewable energy and retirement of traditional generation units are posing new challenges to power system operations and planning to meet the ever-growing demand for more computing and storage resources. As the traditional on-premises infrastructure loses pace to the constantly increasing computing needs, cloud computing has become an attractive addition for increasing average computing capacity, meeting peak demands, acquiring cheap and secure storage for storing a great amount of data, and bringing significant cost savings for utilities. This panel is to gather pioneering cloud users to share their experience, success stories and lessons learnt on applying cloud computing technology for grid planning and operations. It also serves as a forum to initiate a broad discussion upon how to help non-cloud users who are facing the same challenges in planning and operation to start their journey on cloud.
