Super Session 27 Jul 2021

Resilience of the electric grid is critical more than ever under the evolving impacts of climate change. The resulting effects of severe and abnormal weather events are already emerging across the world. Record low temperatures observed in Texas in the winter of 2021 have caused massive outages, leaving homes amid freezing conditions. An industry-wide holistic framework for resilience planning and investment prioritization is strongly needed to both mitigate and adapt to the impacts of potential major events on the electric grid. A consistent definition of resiliency and set of robust metrics to quantify it is the enabler of resiliency planning frameworks across the electricity sector. IEEE Industry Technical Support Leadership Committee (ITS LC) has worked with industry experts to develop documents addressing various resilience aspects, as well as COVID-19 impact on electrical grid and energy storage. This panel will bring leaders from the industry and regulatory and government agencies to address resilience related issues, including providing concrete examples and solutions.
