The panel that we are proposing is entitled œEnergy Storage: The Nexus Between Technology and Policy. In proceedings across the U.S., state regulators are evaluating energy storage technologies and setting policies that will have a direct impact of the ability of energy storage to participate on equal footing against alternatives in the marketplace. Oftentimes policies are being developed without a clear understanding of the technology considerations that also set the course for the future of energy storage. In this proposed panel discussion, we will convene a panel of policymakers from states that have current regulatory proceedings that concern energy storage. While the panel participants are still being determined, it is our intent to assemble a group of policymakers from states that are pursuing diverse objectives for energy storage, and which represent different regions of the country. It is likely that we will include representation from states such as Iowa, Maryland, Nevada, and Utah. The focus of the roundtable will be the scope technology considerations and challenges that have been identified within regulatory proceedings. We will hope to engage in a discussion about the relationship between policy and technology, how technology issues are defining policy (and vice versa), and identify information that regulators are lacking when it comes to evaluating technology considerations in regulatory proceedings.
