This panel is motivated by the growing presence of inverter-based resources (IBR) inelectric power systems, and the related dynamic problems. It is timely and importantto define the level of detail, amount of benchmarking, and suitability of models used,and consider novel dynamic phasor-based approaches. The panel will consider waysof bridging current industry practice with the new modeling and simulationapproaches, keeping in mind availability of PMU measurements of reactive power andvoltage dynamics. The second part of the panel will assess dynamics of systems with distributed controlof IBRs, with examples of sub synchronous electromagnetic oscillatory problemsexperienced in real-world systems. As a way forward, novel ways of controlling IBRs sothat these systems are feasible and stable for the defined ranges of operatingconditions will be presented.
