This panel session will focus on providing a general overview of the IEEE 1250 document along with background and history. Historically, IEEE 1250 was written as a guide for protecting sensitive equipment to momentary voltage disturbances. Over the years it has evolved into a more all-encompassing document covering all areas of power quality in a more general fashion with the intent of pointing users to other related standards that cover each area in more depth. Those areas of voltage quality include voltage regulation, voltage imbalance, harmonic distortion, voltage fluctuations (e.g. flicker and RVC), voltage sags, interruptions and transients. IEEE 1250 also contains guidance on susceptibility of power system loads and voltage quality improvement for end users.
