Cost of distributed energy resources (DERs) such as renewables, storage, and smart loads is reducing. It is driving up their connection to distribution systems. Distribution systems need to be liberalized to extract maximum benefits from DERs. They should create a distribution system energy market operated by a distribution system operator facilitating peer-to-peer, peer-to-DSO and Transmission-to-DSO type transactions. DSO model holds immense promise of enhanced economic opportunity for DERs making them more profitable and a promise of increased social welfare benefiting both buyers and sellers. This panel will discuss, debate and present methods, models and solutions for DSO type solutions.
