Panel 19 Jul 2022

The shift to electric transportation while welcomed in many respects, presents a number of challenges which cannot be underestimated. Among them are: the impact on the grid in general; regulations and standards; and, the right mix of slow and fast charging. The panel will focus mostly on the charging interface between vehicles and grids, examine the technical challenges around fast charging, explore the proper mix of high-power and slow charging, and also look at possible gaps in standards around these technologies. The main area of discussion will be around personal transportation, which may well ultimately constitute the bulk (in terms of aggregate energy) of the electric need. It is also an area where there is less clarity on how drivers will end up charging their cars, as opposed to vehicles in other sectors with more predictable routes and needs.
