Panel 21 Jul 2022

A revision of IEEE Standard 762 Standard Definitions for Use in Reporting Electric Generating Unit Reliability, Availability, and Productivity is underway. The revision will extend the standard to cover variable energy resource (VER) generators, such as wind and solar. Key changes to address VER generators include: definition of the concept of resource availability; a distinction between indices used for (a) system reliability analysis and (b) equipment availability monitoring; definition of “critical period” and critical period indices; and redefinition of some VER indices in terms of generation rather than time. The panel session will provide an overview of the changes, their background, and their implications, and invite discussion from the audience of the proposals and their relevance to the industry.
