Panel 17 Jul 2023

Hydropower power plants have traditionally provided reliable flexibility services to the grid. However, this flexibility has been impacted by drought and other constraints on water resources. Hybrid hydropower systems include hydropower plants that are combined with other flexibility resources, specifically energy storage systems, which enhance the flexibility of combined system to provide services to the grid while respecting the environmental and water resource limitations of hydropower systems. This panel session brings together experts from academic, national labs, industry and regulatory agencies to discuss opportunities and challenges of developing hybrid hydropower systems. Presentations in this panel session: - Advances in Representing and Benchmarking Hydropower Operations in Bulk Power System Studies (23PESGM4155) - Energy Storage Integration into Hydroelectric Turbine Operation (23PESGM4158)
