Panel 19 Jul 2023

Microgrids are power systems with local power generation. The main feature of a microgrid is its ability to operate in parallel to the local grid (grid-connected mode) or without the grid (island-mode) when the grid is unavailable. Proper microgrid design and operation encapsulates multiple electrical and computer engineering disciplines such as power systems, communications, programming, and control. The power engineer of the future needs to be competent and knowledgeable in those disciplines to meet the challenges and needs of the 21st century. Using the lessons learned from commissioning real-world and laboratory-based microgrids, the workshop covers case studies on how microgrids can enhance the power engineering educational experience of students. Presentations in this panel session: - Laboratories for Military Microgrid Education (23PESGM2831) - Microgrid Protection System Design Challenges ñ A Practical Experience (23PESGM2832)

Chairs:
Mahmoud Kabalan, Aaron St. Leger
Primary Committee:
Power & Energy Education (PEEC)
