Solving emerging grid challenges, such as potential overloading of local distribution infrastructure with greater penetration of EVs, or balancing supply and demand with increased variable renewable resources, is becoming increasingly dependent upon reliable information. This panel will discuss a variety of challenges to obtaining reliable smart grid information, as well as data privacy issues. Data challenges arising from forecasting inaccuracies, limitations associated with communication networks, markets' limited observability into distributed resources, and artificial intelligence algorithms deployed in the smart grid will be discussed. The panel will also discuss various emerging techniques to increase availability of reliable information, while also addressing privacy issues.
