This panel presents the latest development and best practices of novel high-performance computing systems for the integration of renewable energy sources. The quantity and heterogeneity of data generated from renewable energy sources and electric vehicle charging in smart grids have increased significantly over the years. Edge devices, including smart meters, have created significant processing demands on cloud computing systems and centralized control for data processing and storage in real-time operation and control. The panel session will demonstrate that advanced computing systems will enhance distribution and transmission system planning and operation, which will reduce system costs and increase efficiency. There is a need to adopt edge computing techniques to increase processing power, improve data security, and reduce communication burdens. Specific details of US, European, and further international R&D activities will also be presented.
