The IEEE distribution test feeders began in 1991 with a 13-bus case. Since then, the set of cases has expanded to support new and replicable research, highlight new applications, and encourage the development of analytical tools. This panel will present the motivations and applications for the most recent test feeders, including distribution system dynamics, distributed energy resource (DER) hosting capacity analysis, and studies of large-scale reconfigurable systems. Panelists will also describe lessons learned from solving the new test cases in a variety of open-source and research-grade analysis tools. Those interested in hosting capacity, islanding, protection, and bulk electric system impacts of DER should consider attending.
