Emerging technologies and uncertainty drivers such as increasing levels of variable renewable energy, more frequent extreme events and weather-dependent correlated thermal outages, and the prevalence of energy-limited resources such as storage and demand response are shifting the nature of resource adequacy assessment. These changes are leading many practitioners to consider a wider range of resource adequacy metrics and criteria, including energy-based, tail-risk, economic, and multi-metric adequacy criteria. This panel will explore the motivations and implications of such changes across a range of different power systems.
