The Advanced Grid Institute (AGI) is a joint collaboration between the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and Washington State University (WSU) with the goal to promote the research and evolution of advanced grid modeling for the support of planning and operations of the emerging complex power systems of the future. The AGI is also a model for enhancing workforce training for the electric industry and is ideally situated to address regional grid challenges. This session will first provide an overview of the AGI, its mission, and examples of past projects and collaborations. The session will also include a panel comprised of AGI leadership and members of the AGI’s Industrial Advisory Board, which include representatives of regional utilities and industry vendors. The panel members will provide their insights into how the collaborations such as the AGI can benefit the electric power industry as it faces unparalleled change and challenges. They will also discuss the impact and benefit that their companies have seen from past AGI projects and provide insight into how this collaboration can address specific key challenges that they are facing in the future. These panelists, representing this region’s industry thought leaders, will provide unique insights into the emerging electricity grid.
