PacifiCorp has been serving customers and communities for more than 100 years and supports about 2 million customers through two distribution companies, Pacific Power and Rocky Mountain Power. In this presentation, the efforts to maintain the quality of service and keep providing low cost electricity will be introduced. Some of these efforts include the installation new monitoring devices through a novel communication architecture. These devices named Communicating Fault Current Indictor (CFCIs), augment the predictive capabilities of existing systems, increase the situational awareness, and expedite fault isolation and response actions. The benefits of the commissioning of these new set of monitoring devices will be illustrated in recent real faulty conditions.
