Speaker Bios: Dr. Randupama T. Gunasekara has over 12 years of experience in power system modeling and simulation studies using various simulation tools. As a Power Systems Study Engineer at Manitoba Hydro International, she get involved with IBR connection and integration studies, insulation coordination studies, control interaction studies, and model development for detailed EMT simulations on PSCAD/EMTDC software. She is also responsible for Technical Support for PSCAD/EMTDC global userbase and act as the lead technical support engineer for PSCAD applications. She has conducted more than 20 workshops, ranging from 1 to 5 days in duration, covering diverse topics such as power system transients and renewable integration dynamic response studies. her expertise extends to technical proposal writing, detailed electrical engineering designs, procurement documentation, and technical bid document evaluation. Her research interests are on the subject of Power system dynamics with a focus on inverter?based resource (IBR) connection impacts. She has also published several technical papers on the topic. She is extremely proficient in using mainstream power system simulations software tools PSCAD/EMTDC and PSS/E and other tools such as, MATLAB, MATCAD and Microsoft project Dr. Dharshana Muthumuni is the Managing Director of the Manitoba HVDC Research Centre, a division of Manitoba Hydro International. Dharshana has been participating in ESAM for the last 2 years in his current role. He has over 20 years of experience in engineering studies using a variety of simulation products, including PSCAD™ and PSS/E. His expertise is regularly sought out by clients around the world for his strong and wide ranging technical knowledge on power system behavior, model development, and simulation studies. He has lead the technical team to solve challenging problems, including HVDC and generation interconnections, wind integration into weak grids, FACTS based solutions, SSR screening techniques, and power quality and harmonics. Dharshana has worked extensively and closely with equipment vendors to develop simulation models and techniques to address difficult interconnection problems. He has developed many customized models and simulations techniques for specific studies, including working closely with equipment vendors to address their simulation study requirements. In addition to his engineering study experience, Dharshana has been a key developer of the PSCAD simulation tool and has conducted training workshops on a variety of power system topics for our global clients. In his current position, Dharshana is responsible for overseeing the development and deployment of all MHRC’s products and services including PSCAD™, HVDC Line Fault Locator System, Engineering Consulting, Training, and Research & Development. Dharshana has traveled to several countries around the world to meet with Clients and execute projects. Amalnath Mani PEng, Int.PE (Canada) has been working for the Power Technology Solutions Centre of MHI since 2010. He has over 14 years of experience in EMT-type studies, power system modelling and simulation for planning and operation with a focus on IBR integration in weak grid conditions. He is responsible for MHI’s operations and supporting client in Australia since 2018. Amal continues to support transmission and distribution companies (Transgrid, Powerlink, Electranet etc) and the systems operator (AMEO) with developing and maintaining wide area network models in PSCAD™ specialist system analysis for renewable integration, performance evaluation and negotiations for IBR generator connections and PSCAD™ based large system integration studies. Amal has extensive working knowledge of the technical and regulatory challenges associated with planning and operating power systems with high penetration of power electronics-based generators. He has lead the development of and contributed to Transmission Master plans, Black System restoration, including developing models in PSCAD™ and a wide range of insulation coordination (SOV, TOV, and Lightning), and frequency scanning studies. Amal has provided many PSCAD™ training workshops in Australia and around the world on a variety of topics including Renewable Integration using PSCAD™
