First the principles of Radar are covered in general, including range and angular resolution. Next, the basic idea of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), and how it can provide better resolution using multiple measurements from a range of positions in an orbital pass. Some considerations are then provided as to how to process the raw signal data in order to produce a high-resolution image. Lastly, some existing SAR sensors, both airborne and spaceborne, are provided as examples.
