Abstract: The number of Distributed Energy Resources connected to the grid is increasing, along the path towards more renewable energy. These power systems are connected to cloud applications, and external operators and servers, and becomes Cyber-Physical-Power-Systems, that represents a cybersecurity risk for the grid. The attention of cybercriminals on OT systems, like DERs, are increasing, as OT systems typically are lacking behind IT systems in terms of security, and therefore are easier targets. The risk is clearly identified, and legislation in e.g. US and EU are emerging to cope with the threat. This presentation is proposing an approach on how to address this problem in the design of DERs, with a Resilience Control approach using a framework and process based on IEC62443, and includes suggestions to mitigation strategies, during the lifetime of the power system.
