Abstract: The electrification of the transport sector is one of the main key elements to decarbonize the energy system while the charging infrastructures of electric vehicles must be supplied by sustainable, decentralized energy resources. In addition, battery energy storage systems are required to secure the power supply by volatile resources. Since e.g. photovoltaics and battery energy storage systems are operated with direct current internally, DC microgrids for the connection of energy sources, energy storages and loads have several advantages over established approaches with AC connection. The presentation will focus on the advantages and design aspects of DC microgrids for charging infrastructure.
