Abstract: Discrete time modeling of power electronics has been widely applied for small signal modeling and control design without the necessity of an averaging approximation. These same techniques are useful for the large signal, steady-state modeling and design optimization of power electronics. The principal advantages of this approach are generality and limited approximation requirements that allow flexibility to rapidly model a wide variety of designs without dedicated analysis. This talk will review state space discrete time modeling of switching power converters with applications to steady-state modeling and design optimization, ongoing efforts and resources being developed at the University of Tennessee, as well as application examples.
