Shun-ichi Amari, Professor Emeritus at University of Tokyo, and Senior Advisor at RIKEN Brain Science Institute, Life IEEE Fellow, IEEE Emanuel R. Piore Award. He has been involved in research in wide areas of mathematical engineering, in particular, mathematical foundations of neural networks, including statistical neurodynamics, dynamical theory of neural fields, associative memory, self-organization, and general learning theory. Another main subject of his research is information geometry initiated by himself, which provides information sciences with a new powerful method.,Dr. Amari served as the President of Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, Japan and the President of International Neural Networks Society.
