The Rural Electrification Administration (REA) is not actually a regional group of electric utilities. It is associated, however, with approximately 900 rural electric distribution cooperatives and over 60 generation and transmission cooperatives. These cooperatives, which have more than 11,000,000 member-consumers, have installed a total of approximately 147,000 miles of underground distribution line (7.5 percentof the total miles in line).
