To mitigate the climate change issues, our communities are adopting more and more renewable energy, which bring new challenges in the community energy system design and operation. Meanwhile, we have seen more and more climate-change induced disasters. A solution the above challenges is to make our communities smart, sustainable, and resilient. In this webinar, attendance will learn how to use open source Modelica models to assist the design and operation of smart, sustainable, and connected communities. We will see model-based optimization for a real-world net zero energy community on Anna Maria Island, Florida. Then we will illustrate the operation of such community in the islanded mode after the hurricane. In addition, we will review the interaction of energy, transportation and communication systems and understand the method in modeling such complex integrated systems. The goal is to enable zero outage for energy system, zero congestion for communication, and zero traffic for transportation. A case study will then demonstrate the interaction of the three systems. At the end of webinar, attendance will have a good understanding of challenges, opportunities, and potential tools for the design and operation of smart, sustainable, and resilient communities.
